At Web City Properties, we take pride in fostering not just homes, but stories of growth and resilience. One of our tenants, Nery, embodies courage, perseverance, and the true spirit of overcoming adversity.
Originally from Nicaragua, Nery’s journey has been marked by bravery. As an educated professional, she worked for the national election polls, driven by a passion for fairness and integrity. Her strong principles, however, drew the wrong kind of attention. When a political candidate demanded that she alter votes in his favor, Nery boldly refused. Her decision, though morally right, came with severe consequences. She soon faced threats of retaliation, not just against her, but against her family as well.
Fearing for their safety, Nery fled to Spain. But the threats followed, forcing her to make another life-changing decision: moving her family to the United States, in search of safety and new beginnings. She settled in Oak Cliff and eventually became a resident at a Web City Properties home. Despite her intelligence and education, Nery found herself starting over, as her qualifications from home didn’t translate easily here. Yet, Nery’s spirit remained unbroken.
Web City Properties, in partnership with Rainbow Housing Assistance Corporation, offered her an opportunity to take action to improve her life. Through our programs, Nery found the opportunity to work toward her GED. Determined to build a better life for her family, she worked tirelessly and achieved her GED—an incredible step forward. Now, she’s pursuing a medical assistant certification, while her husband explores additional educational opportunities, all with the support of our community-focused initiatives.
We are inspired by Nery’s bravery and resilience. Her story reminds us of the transformative power of support and determination. As we celebrate Nery’s achievements, we encourage other residents facing challenges to take advantage of the resources available, believing in their potential to grow and become the best versions of themselves.
Thank you, Nery, for being a remarkable part of our community. We’re honored to be part of your journey.
